How To

How to make an omelet that is perfect

Omelets have always been a favourite food to eat for breakfast. But how do they turn out so perfectly? There are many recipes and methods I tried, but none worked. So today, I want to share some tips and tricks with you so you can make your own delicious and fluffy omelets every morning.

Before we start making omelets, let's remember that eggs are temperamental. The eggs must be fresh from an organic source and kept at room temperature until they are ready to be cooked. If you don't keep them cold enough, the whites won't form properly, and the yolks will break down too much and become runny. This will make your omelets appear strangely colored. If you plan to cook the eggs right away, it is best to use room temperature eggs.

Another tip is to separate the egg before adding it to the pan. You don't want any white to get mixed up with the yolk because this could cause the omelet to curdle.

If you add the egg directly onto the stovetop, you might end up burning the bottom part of the egg, which would ruin the texture of your omelet. Instead, put the egg in the microwave for 10 seconds before putting it into the pan. The microwave heat will cook the egg just right without making it too hot.

Next, let’s talk about mixing the egg. When mixing eggs, it is important to thoroughly beat them. Turn the bowl upside down and grab the whisk to do this. Then shake the bowl vigorously. This will whip the air around the bowl and mix the egg well.

The fun part begins - you need to pour the milk into your mixture. Fold the eggs in the milk mixture by first pouring half of it into the egg whites. Do not be alarmed if there are still egg streaks visible. Once the omelet flips, these streaks will disappear.

After you have folded the eggs, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil has started to sizzle, turn the heat down to low. Add 1/4 cup butter to the oil and swirl it around to coat all sides of the pan. Carefully open the pan's lid and add salt to the pan. A pinch of salt will prevent your omelet from sticking in the pan.

Cover the pan once the omelet is formed and allow it to cool completely. Flip the omelet with a spatula, or flip it upside down. Cook the other half for another minute. Take the omelet out of the pan and immediately serve.

This recipe is best made with whole milk. However, it can also be used with skimmed milk.
